About the Unix Timestamp Converter

A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC. It appears in databases, server logs, APIs and JWT tokens. Converting it by hand is impractical, so developers and support teams use a converter while debugging.

This converter works in seconds. JavaScript and some APIs use milliseconds (13 digits), so remove the last three digits before converting those. When converting a date to a timestamp, the date and time you pick are read in your device’s local time zone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

It is the number of seconds that have passed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, not counting leap seconds.

My timestamp has 13 digits. What do I do?

That is a millisecond timestamp. Remove the last three digits (or divide by 1,000) to get seconds, then convert it.

Which time zone is used?

The ISO result is always in UTC, marked with a Z. The Local line uses your device’s time zone. Dates you enter are interpreted in your local time zone.

Can I convert negative timestamps?

Yes. Negative values represent dates before 1970.
